Mixing these two mediums allows me to express different ideas. The wax hardens over a finished Batik, preserving it and adding texture. I work with my head…imagining and sketching an idea that will tell a story. The words turn into objects and the color combinations not only work together but excite the eye. I work with my heart…carefully painting layers of hot beeswax onto delicate rice paper and then adding watercolor washes between those boundaries. At the end of this process the entire piece is covered with beeswax. Underneath values have been preserved and above it’s almost unrecognizable.
